I help newsrooms improve how they recruit, hire and promote journalists to better reflect the diversity in the communities they cover, especially the marginalized. I’m passionate about building trust between communities and the journalists who cover them — especially Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI).
This was the focus of my work as 2019-2022 president of the Asian American Journalists Association, representing more than 2,000 journalists across the United States and in Asia and bringing more visibility to their work and careers. AAPIs have historically been underrepresented in newsrooms and in news leadership, and I want to help change that.
Below is a selection of my work on issues that drive me when I’m not reporting on the news.
